Democrats: SubPrime Mortgage Collapse

WARNING:  Watching these videos may cause intense rage. Three different videos document how Democrats caused the mortgage meltdown, the  near-collapse of our entire financial system, and a worldwide financial crisis. The likely culprit:   $200 million in campaign contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, then totally unregulated, to buy Congressional Democrats. The videos are from different sources, so here’s the timeline to confirm.

1999 Clinton administration mandates increased lending to low-income borrowers, which required lower lending standards, and prompted concern by even the New York Times :"In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980’s. … In July, the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed that by the year 2001, 50 percent of Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s portfolio be made up of loans to low and moderate-income borrowers"(That’s the New York Times, not Fox news)

2001.  Three months into office, the first Bush budget warns of possible danger in the subprime housing market, especially the unregulated Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, echoing the New York Times concern two years earlier.

2003.  Bush Administration increases concern, warns of a definite threat, and seeks a new "world class" regulatory body.  McCain co-sponsors the legislation.

2003.  Democrats oppose and defeat any regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Claim Republicans are trying to deny affordable housing to low-income people.  Later revealed that Democrats had received $200 million in campaign cash from Fannie and Freddie.

2004.  Fannie Mae, now safe from regulation, begins backing the "toxic" mortgages, is later found guilty of fraud and seized by the federal government.  Countrywide Mortgage bribed two Fannie Mae CEOs with below-market mortgages, incuding Clinton’s former Budget Director.  Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae CEO and former Clinton Budget Director, eventually pays $24.7 million fine for the fraud uncovered in Fannie Mae books.  Videos show (mostly) Maxine Waters accusing Republicans of a witch hunt against (Democrat) Raines, prior to Raines being sued by the government and settling for a $24.7 million fine.  Also watch Democrats attacking the federal regulator who blew the whistle on all the fraud. They were protecting Raines not us.

These three videos are the best I could find for you, to lay out this entire sordid mess. Video One focuses more on Republican efforts to control the runaway housing bubble.  We need to see this, because Democrats now blame the lack of regulation on … the Bush Administration! In fairness, Democrats may have sincerely believed they were expanding affordable housing for low-income families.  They simply had no idea what they were doing.  Like healthcare.

This second video confirms that a large number of Democrats were involved in protecting their cash cow — a Rogue’s Gallery of testimony — all caught red-handed with their hands in the cookie jar.  Watch Democrats beating up on the regulator who blew the whistle on all the fraud. Stay until the very end.   Congressional Democrats advised to resist regulating Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae by …. Bill Clinton. Yes, that Bill Clinton.

Video Three is mostly a side show of reports documents and news reports.  Here, the hottest segments replay elements of the McCain/Obama campaign.

We also see campaign finance reports of who pocketed the most from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac … including Barack Obama.

This one goes too fast on slides you may wish to read or study.  Keep your cursor on the pause button; click  for any slide you want to study, especially the news sources and reports.

Disclaimer:  Some slides, only four, have data displayed on a blank page, no masthead or source.  They are also among the sharpest assertions against Obama.  Believe what you like, but I cannot confirm them.  Everything else confirms.  Also, this is a campaign video so I suggest sticking with the documented sources shown.

As a Classical Liberal, I tend to trust Republicans more on economics, and Democrats more on civil liberties. But that goes two ways

How can we stop Democrats from repeatedly destroying our economy?  How can  we stop Republicans from repeatedly destroying our civil liberties?

Next in the Hall Of Shame:  Watch Sean Hannity offer to undergo waterboarding, to provide charitable  support for our troops, while ridiculing any claims of it being torture  … then Hannity refuses repeated offers of $1,000 per second that he can stay under the waterboard.  No word from all those troops who are still waiting for him to deliver.
